Personas A/B: test two versions of the service AI and promote the one that converts more
Personas A/B is the panel item that puts two versions of the service AI live at the same time, measures which one converts more leads into qualified ones, and lets you edit how each version speaks.
Who can use it
Role
What you see and do
Owner
Sees and does everything: creates variant B, edits and saves personas, pauses and resumes variant B, turns on voice replies and promotes the winner.
Admin
Sees the experiment, the numbers and the editor with the fields filled in. Creating a variant, saving, pausing or promoting returns a notice that the action is for the account Owner only.
Agent
Sees the item in the menu, the experiment and the editor, like the Admin. Actions that change the persona are rejected with a notice that only the Owner can do them.
Screens
Personas A/B
The Personas A/B screen is for following the test between variant A and variant B of the AI persona and deciding, based on statistics, which of the two to promote.
Address in the dashboard: /app/personas
The Personas A/B screen in the demo account, with sample data and blurred values.
Experiment header
Shows whether a test is running and leads to the persona editor.
Buttons and actions
"Editar personas" (Edit personas)
Opens the "Editor de persona" (Persona editor), where each variant's name, tone, offers and ready-made answers are kept.
Status badge: "EM ANDAMENTO" (IN PROGRESS, both versions live), "PAUSADO" (PAUSED, B is paused) or "CONCLUÍDO" (COMPLETED) — winner A or B.
With the test running, the line Split 50/50 · atribuição sticky por lead · ‹n› leads no experimento (últimos 30 dias) (even split, sticky assignment per lead, number of leads in the experiment, last thirty days): half of the new leads go to each version and each lead always stays with the same one.
The period is fixed at the last 30 days; there is no period selector on this screen.
No active A/B test
The card that appears when no experiment is running.
Buttons and actions
"Criar variante B (clonar persona ativa)" (Create variant B (clone active persona))Owner
Creates variant B as an exact copy of the persona that is live and starts the test. While it is creating, the button shows Criando… (Creating…).
Title Sem teste A/B ativo (No active A/B test) with guidance to create a variant B from the active persona.
With B paused, the card says Teste pausado — retome no editor (Test paused — resume in the editor) and explains that all new traffic goes to A.
After promoting, the card says Teste concluído — vencedora ‹A ou B› promovida (Test completed — the winning variant, A or B, promoted); a new cycle starts from the editor.
Variant A and B cards
One card per version, side by side, with each one's persona and numbers.
The variant letter (A or B) and the persona name — the internal label, which the lead never sees.
Counter ‹n› leads: how many people talked to that version.
Lines Nome IA (AI name), Tom (Tone, shortened) and Empresa (Company), taken from the persona.
Large number: the lead-to-qualified conversion, as a percentage, with a bar.
Footer 1ª resposta ‹tempo› · handoff ‹n›% (first reply, time · handoff, percentage): average time to the first reply and the share that was transferred to someone on the team.
"VENCEDORA" (WINNER) badge and highlighted border on the variant that won with a sufficient sample.
Statistical significance
The calculation that tells whether the difference between the two versions is real or luck.
Buttons and actions
"Promover variante ‹A ou B›" (Promote variant ‹A or B›)Owner
Appears only when there is a winner with the minimum sample. It asks for confirmation (A vencedora vira a persona única e a outra é pausada. Promover? — The winner becomes the only persona and the other is paused. Promote?) and ends the test.
Fixed text: a winner is only declared with a two-proportion z-test, requiring p < 0,05 and a minimum sample per variant.
Three numbers: z = ‹valor› (the test statistic), p = ‹valor› (turns green below 0,05) and the B − A difference in percentage points (pp).
Ruler IC95% da diferença (B − A), em pontos percentuais (confidence interval of the difference (B − A), in percentage points), with the zero mark and the band between the lower and upper limits.
With a winner: the sentence A Variante ‹A ou B› converte significativamente mais — pode promovê-la com confiança. (The variant, A or B, converts significantly more — you can promote it with confidence.)
Without a winner: Coletando dados — ‹n›/‹mínimo› e ‹n›/‹mínimo› (Collecting data — n of the minimum, and n of the minimum), how many leads each side already has against the minimum.

Step by step
How to start a persona A/B test
Open Personas A/B in the menu.
On the Sem teste A/B ativo (No active A/B test) card, click "Criar variante B (clonar persona ativa)" (Create variant B (clone active persona)).
Click "Editar personas" (Edit personas); the editor opens on variant B.
Change just one thing in B (for example, the "Tom de voz" (Tone of voice) or the "Ofertas" (Offers)).
Click "Salvar persona" (Save persona).
How to tell whether variant B is winning
Open Personas A/B and first look at the lead counter on each card.
On the "Significância estatística" (Statistical significance) card, check whether Coletando dados (Collecting data, no result yet) appears or the sentence saying a variant converts significantly more.
Check that the 95% CI band no longer crosses zero.
How to promote the winning persona
Wait for the "VENCEDORA" (WINNER) badge to appear on one of the variants.
On the "Significância estatística" (Statistical significance) card, click "Promover variante ‹A ou B›" (Promote variant ‹A or B›).
Confirm in the browser window. The winner starts handling all new traffic and the other one is paused.
How to pause variant B without ending the test
Click "Editar personas" (Edit personas).
Choose the B · ‹nome› button.
Turn off the "Ativa" (Active) switch; it then shows Pausada (Paused).
To resume, turn it on again — the measurement restarts from zero.
How to change the AI's name and tone
Click "Editar personas" (Edit personas) and choose the variant.
Change "Nome da IA" (AI name) and, if you like, click a tone shortcut ("Direto" (Direct), "Consultivo" (Consultative), "Descontraído" (Casual) or Formal) and adjust the text.
Click "Salvar persona" (Save persona).
How to make the AI reply in audio
Open "Editar personas" (Edit personas) and choose the variant.
Turn on "Responder em voz (TTS)" (Reply by voice (TTS)). It takes effect right away, with no saving.
To choose which voice is used, use the "Voz & tom" (Voice & tone) screen.
Frequently asked questions
Does the persona have to be written in every language?
No. The AI replies in the lead's language (Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, Mozambican Portuguese, English, Spanish or French, among those the account accepts) while keeping the persona's name and tone. The languages are set in "Configurações" (Settings) › "IA & persona" (AI & persona) › "Idiomas do atendimento" (Service languages).
Why doesn't the promote button appear?
It only appears when a variant wins with significance (p below 0,05) and both already have the minimum sample of leads. Before that, the card shows Coletando dados (Collecting data).
What period do the numbers on the screen cover?
The last 30 days, always. The screen has no period selector.
Does clicking "Direto" (Direct) or Formal already change the AI?
No. The shortcut only fills the "Tom de voz" (Tone of voice) box with a starting text. The change only takes effect after "Salvar persona" (Save persona).
Does the "Responder em voz" (Reply by voice) switch need "Salvar persona" (Save persona)?
No. It saves on its own when clicked and shows the notice Resposta em voz ativada (Voice reply turned on) or desativada (turned off).
Can an Admin edit the persona?
No. The Admin sees the editor filled in, but saving, creating a variant, pausing and promoting are for the account Owner only.
Does the preview conversation show my persona?
No. The "PRÉVIA AO VIVO" (LIVE PREVIEW) is a fixed demonstration, marked as such. To see the real persona, open a real conversation in the Inbox.
Can I have more than two variants at the same time?
No. The test is always between A and B, with a 50% split for each.
Where do I choose which persona answers for each number?
Under "Conexões" (Connections), in the menu of each account, using the option to choose a persona. This screen only handles the test and the writing of personas.
Help center guide
Personas A/B
Two versions of your AI talking at the same time to find out which one converts more — and the care needed to avoid deciding on a lucky number.
A persona is the way your AI talks: the name it uses, the tone, what it offers, what it answers by heart. Here you put two versions live at the same time and let the leads decide which one sells more — instead of arguing about tone of voice in a meeting.
The screen says atribuição sticky por lead. Sticky means stuck: each lead always talks to the same version, from the first hello to the end. Nobody notices a change of tone mid-conversation, and the measurement doesn't get mixed up.
The screen, part by part
On screen: Personas A/B screen with the experiment header, the cards for variants A and B side by side, and the statistical significance card. An experiment in progress, still collecting data.
What is running: "EM ANDAMENTO" (IN PROGRESS, both versions live) means both versions are live. Split 50/50 is how new leads are divided between them, atribuição sticky por lead is the stickiness described above, and 12 leads no experimento is the sample size so far.
"Editar personas" (Edit personas): Takes you to the editor, where the name, tone, offers, and ready-made answers of both versions live. Changing things there in the middle of the test has consequences — see the section about the editor.
Variant A: The card title (Atendimento comercial) is the internal label: the lead never sees that name. They see the "Nome IA" (AI name) (Vera) and the "Empresa" (Company). The big number is the conversion of leads into qualified leads among those who talked to this version.
Variant B, and the lead counter: Look at the counter before the percentage. With 0 leads, the 0,0% doesn't mean B is bad: it means nobody has talked to it yet. In the footer, 1ª resposta is how long it takes to reply and handoff is the share that became a handoff to a person on the team.
The math that prevents a wrong decision: z and p measure a single thing: the chance that the difference between the two is luck. p < 0,05 is the accepted limit — below it the difference is considered real. pp is the distance between them in percentage points.
The range and the zero: The "IC95%" (95% CI) is the range where the true difference probably lies. As long as that range crosses zero, the two may still be tied and you can't choose. Coletando dados — 12/30 e 0/30 is the screen telling you how many leads are still missing on each side.
Start an experiment
Click "Criar variante B (clonar persona ativa)" (Create variant B (clone active persona)): B starts as an exact copy of the persona that is already live, and the test turns on right away. From then on, each new lead lands in A or B and stays there.
Change only one thing in B: A more direct tone, or a different featured offer, or a different first sentence. If you change three things and B wins, you won't know which one won — and you won't be able to repeat the success.
Let it run without checking every day: With the normal traffic of most accounts, gathering 30 leads on each side takes two to four weeks. Checking the scoreboard every day only produces anxiety and hasty decisions.
Wait for the significance card to clear: While it says "Coletando dados" (Collecting data), there is no result — neither for nor against. Whoever is ahead today easily switches sides when there are few leads.
Promote the winner: Only when the "VENCEDORA" (WINNER) badge and the sentence saying it can be promoted with confidence appear together.
The big number. Of every 100 people who talked to that version, how many became hot or warm. This is the measure that decides the experiment.
"1ª resposta" (1st response)
How long until the first reply goes out. It works as a sanity check: if one of the versions is much slower, compare carefully, because part of the conversion difference may be waiting, not text.
handoff
Handoff: the share of conversations that needed to be passed to a person on the team. Less is not always better — in high-ticket sales, more handoffs with more closings is great. The queue is in "Transbordo para humano" (Handoff to a human).
leads
How many people talked to that version. It is the first number to look at: without people on both sides, the rest is decoration.
Significance, in plain English
The screen warns that "vencedor só é declarado com teste z de duas proporções, exigindo p < 0,05 e amostra mínima de 30 leads por variante" (a winner is declared only with a two-proportion z-test, requiring p < 0.05 and a minimum sample of 30 leads per variant). That is a statistics sentence, and it means three simple things:
The math compares two rates, A's and B's, taking into account how many people went through each one. Twenty percent of 5 people is not worth the same as twenty percent of 500.
`p` is the chance that the difference is luck.p = 0,03 means a 3% chance of coincidence. Below 0.05 the screen accepts it as a real difference.
The "IC95%" (95% CI) is the range where the real difference should lie. If the range goes from -4 to +12 points, it passes through zero — and passing through zero means a tie still fits in the math. No promoting.
Promote, pause, and resume
These three actions have different consequences, and two of them are hard to undo. It is worth reading before you click:
Promover
Ends the experiment. The winner becomes the account's only persona and the other one is paused. In practice there is no going back: to compare again, you start a new experiment from scratch.
"Pausar a B" (Pause B)
Sends 100% of new leads to A. Those who were already talking to B stay with it — the stickiness lasts until the end of that conversation.
"Retomar" (Resume)
Splits the leads again, but restarts the measurement from zero. Everything accumulated before the pause is lost, including the 20-some leads that had already been counted.
The persona editor
"Editar personas" (Edit personas) opens the screen where each version is written. There are few fields, and each one changes a different thing in the conversation:
"Nome da persona" (Persona name)
The internal label, so you can tell A from B in the list. The lead never sees this name.
"Nome da IA" (AI name)
The name that appears to the lead in the conversation. This one, yes, they read.
"Empresa exibida" (Displayed company)
How the AI introduces itself. It should match what is written on your channels.
"Ofertas" (Offers)
What it may offer in this version. It is the field that changes results the most, more than the tone.
"Tom de voz" (Tone of voice)
How it talks, written by you. The four shortcuts — "Direto" (Direct), "Consultivo" (Consultative), "Descontraído" (Casual), and Formal — only fill the box with starter text; they don't save anything. After clicking, read, adjust, and save.
Recurring questions, with the exact answer you want sent. Useful for price, lead time, and policy — the three where improvising is costly.
"Responder em voz (TTS)" (Reply by voice (TTS))
Reply in audio instead of text. It changes the lead's perception a lot, so test it on its own, in an experiment of its own. Details in "Voz" (Voice).
One persona per account
If you serve through more than one account — two WhatsApp numbers, an Instagram account, the web chat — each one can have its own persona. This is what allows two brands, or two franchises, in the same dashboard: the headquarters number replies as Sofia and the second brand's Instagram replies as Marina, without mixing.
Open "Conexões" (Connections): Each account appears with a line saying "Atende como…" (Responds as…) — including those that were never configured, which say a persona da empresa.
In the account menu, choose "Escolher persona" (Choose persona): On Instagram, the button is on the account's own row. The list offers the option Persona da empresa (padrão) and all active personas.
Save: Applies from the next message onward. Conversations that were already open stay with the persona that was already handling them — switching tone in the middle of a chat is exactly what sticky assignment avoids.
The A/B test keeps running
When you link an account to a variant that is in a test, that account keeps drawing between A and B — the link picks the pair, it doesn't freeze the test. Accounts without a link stay in the company's test, as before.
Only an active persona can be linked
A paused persona answers nobody; allowing it to be linked would create a screen saying Marina replies on a number where she never speaks.
If the linked persona is paused later
The account doesn't go silent: it goes back to replying with the company persona until you choose another one.
If the account is disconnected
The link is kept. When you reconnect the same number or the same Instagram account, it goes back to replying with the same persona — nothing needs to be redone.
In "Configurações" (Settings) → "IA & persona" (AI & persona) there is the same map in read-only form, in the "Quem responde por cada conta" (Who answers for each account) block — useful for checking everything at once without opening "Conexões" (Connections). And the "Base de conhecimento" (Knowledge base) has the equivalent scoping: each document can apply only to the accounts you select.
What is worth testing
The first sentence. It is what decides whether the person replies. Testing only this usually pays off more than rewriting the whole persona.
Asking early or late. A version that already asks about the timeline in the second message versus one that chats first.
One featured offer versus three. Fewer options usually qualify more people, but this changes from industry to industry — which is why you test it.
Formal versus casual. It is the most requested test and almost always the one with the smallest effect. Leave it for after the other three.
After promoting, confirm the effect where it shows up in money: Analytics, same period, same filters, one week before and one week after.
In the dashboard: "Abrir Personas A/B" (Open Personas A/B)
